The course has been specifically designed to ensure trainers, in the subject of Manual Handling of people, are continuously assessed as competent and can maintain their own high standards of delivery, along with changing the cultures within workplaces.
Manual Handling is one of the highest causes of time off work, and unfortunately it is still increasing yearly, therefore trainers must ensure they update their skills and knowledge regularly.
Course Duration:
This course is delivered over 3 consecutive days, totalling 21 hours of classroom training.
Pre – Requisites:
To attend this course, learners must be a practising Manual Handling of People trainer.
You will be required to:
- provide evidence of your original ‘Manual Handling Trainer’ certificate
- a detailed Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Plan to identify how competency has been maintained.
Learners attending this course do not have to have previously attended an IOSH Manual Handling Train the Trainer course. Learners will also be required to advise which Local Authority you work in to ensure the most relevant standards are incorporated.

The aim of this qualification is to:
Ensure trainers maintain, and/or develop, their skills, knowledge and abilities when delivering manual handling of people training.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of your course, you will:
- Identify problem solving techniques for your own delivery sessions
- Recognise impacts of manual handling on the body and how to act safely when carrying out manual handling manoeuvres
- Demonstrate your skills of manual handling practical activities
- Evaluate your own performance, and that of others by providing constructive feedback
Training Materials:
Learners will be provided with a training pack at the beginning of the course. The information within this pack will allow learners to enhance their knowledge and understanding of Manual Handling of people within health and social care settings. The training pack will consist of:
- Assessment guidelines and information
- Learner information handbook
- Manual Handling Passport standards – please request a copy of this
Certificates
On successful completion of the training course, learners will receive an IOSH approved course certificate.
Renewal training will take place every 3 years and learners will be contacted via email.
